Integration of the national food safety standards is underway in China

The 46th Session of Codex Alimentarius Committee on Food Additives (CCFA) was held in Hong Kong from March 17 to 21. Chen Xiaohong, the vice chairman of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, was present at the opening ceremony and made an opening address.


Chen Xiaohong stated that CCFA has completed the codex standards for processing aids and additives used in food industry and examined and approved lots of standards on food additives, so they have made a great progress in General Codes for International Food Additives. Also according to him, China has cleared up approx. 5,000 food standards in 2013, and now it is paying close attention to integrating the national food safety standards in order to form the basic Chinese food safety standards system by the end of 2015. In addition, he said that China is working in close cooperation with other countries and actively takes part in the work related to the international food safety standards to make contributions to food safety maintenance and promotion of international trades.
